Islington in Bloom is an annual horticultural competition organized by Islington Council and Islington Gardeners, encouraging residents to enhance local green spaces. The competition features various categories, including ‘Best Edible Garden,’ which focuses on food-growing initiatives. Participants are judged on factors such as plant diversity, sustainability practices, and wildlife support.
I was commissioned by Islington in Bloom to interview and photograph many of the edible gardens that entered the competition. I draw a map, took lots of images and also interviewed Danny Clarke at the harvest festival in September 2024. (https://lnkd.in/em4daf8N).
There are some amazing garden projects and gardeners out there in the capital making their own contribution that incrementally builds to make a big difference.
Here’s a selection of stories.
